This is the ONLY shop I make a point of visiting every time I go to Salem. The shop itself is a delight, filled with a fun and fascinating array of items; the owners are marvelous people and VERY knowledgeable about Salem history; and last but certainly not least…cats. If you love cats, you can’t pass up a chance to visit. (I have yet to see the Spirits of Salem Museum on the premises, but that’s why another trip will happen soon.) HIGHLY recommended.

Loved visiting this shop! Shopped around and took a night tour, staffed with some of the sweetest coolest people in Salem! And the tour was sO amazing! Great fun facts about the city and history along with the peculiar spooky side. I couldn’t imagine a better way to visit Salem for the first time! So cool! (P.S. brought home a “rat” in a catnip bath for my cat. It’s a must have!!

This was not just a shopping trip. It was a fun and carefree experience! I actually visited the store on Halloween this year, and I was immediately impressed by how professional and friendly the staff was in the face of massive crowds. They managed access to the store to keep it from being overcrowded, but we're also able to maintain a constant turnover despite the number of people wandering around in full costume who were trying to see everything they could. Also a shout-out to the Gojo at the door. Excellent cosplay! The interior was full but not overwhelming, with interesting decor and items for sale. I was particularly impressed with the display of time travel items and props, along with the tasteful signage in Time Lord. The tea selection based upon the owner's cats was just cute. The staff were helpful without hovering and, despite the volume of people moving around, I never felt rushed or pressured. Heck, when I got myself a pocket watch, the cashier took the time to help me set it properly when I didn't have a clue! All in all, I was quite happy with this experience and I would recommend that anyone coming to Salem make sure that a trip there end up on their list.

A unique little gift shop in the heart of Downtown Salem, Ma. I would recommend checking out their selection of teas which are exclusive to them and based on employee's cats 🐈‍⬛. I tried the Egyptian Cat Tea and was not disappointed. A unique flavor of Egyptian Chamomile, Peppermint & Darjeeling tickles the taste buds and does not require any sugar, honey, lemon or cream! The cat toys, upon request, are dusted in extra catnip at checkout to keep your feline friends frenzied and fabulously entertained! They also offer tours, be sure to ask. We ran into the "Sanderson Sisters" during our visit - what a delight!

The Black Cat Curiosity Shoppe was our favorite experience while visiting Salem. This is, hands down, the absolute coolest thing you can do without buying a ticket for admission. The gentleman running the shop was a warm, welcoming presence and an absolute delight to speak to - both about the artifacts & products in the shop and about Salem in general. I was delighted to find their collection of unique teas & came home with “Bookstore Cat”, although it was a hard decision amongst all the other offerings. It is a sweet reminder of our trip. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to go on one of their walking tours because we only had a day in town. We can’t wait to go back & will absolutely be visiting again & going on a tour with these knowledgeable & sweet individuals! They embody the heart and soul of what makes Salem such a wonderful and uniquely special place.

Went into this store not knowing what to expect and was very impressed. First off it was a gorgeous store! Second there were so many movie artifacts to look at which was really cool! They had the wand Johnny Depp use in the Fantastic Beasts! They also had a lot of unique gifts to buy as well!

One of Salem's most magical locations! Black Cat Curiosity Shoppe boasts an eclectic selection of offerings ranging from Salem souvenirs to locally crafted items as well as doubling as museum. They have an incredible collection of historical artifacts and some relics you may recognize from pop culture and film. They are truly a unique shoppe! While you’re there- inquire about their tours! The Black Cat empire also offers historical tours—both day and night time— a great way to take in the history of Salem. While their shoppe is amazing, the staff and owners are what really makes this place magical! They care about Salem and the people that live in and visit the area. Be sure to pop in next time you’re in town. 🖤🐈‍⬛

I went into almost every shop of Essex Street and this was my favorite. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The store itself feels like a dream with so many movie ans historical artifacts sprinkled everywhere. I waited outside for a bit and it didn't matter, it was so worth it when i got inside! They also have wonderful tours that leave from the shop. I took two during my stay and they were wonderful. The night ghost tour was the best!

Amazing experience at this shop. It was an October weekend so there was somewhat of a line but this was my daughter’s number one shop she wanted to see (she loves cats). The wait was worth it. The lady outside made the wait go fast as she chatted with us waiting in line and got us excited to go inside. I cannot say enough good things about every person who worked here- every single employee was warm, inviting, knowledgeable and fun. We had a fun interaction inside with my daughter (don’t want to spoil anything by giving details.) Obviously there was a lot of cat memorabilia a merchandise. But there was so much more - from many movies I watched as a child. I was excited to purchase an Auryn pendant that Artreyu wore in The Never Ending Story. We all left shoot. Will definitely return next time we go to Salem.

This is one of my favorite shops in Salem! So much to see here, it’s almost like a museum. We had lots of fun browsing, and taking photos here- there’s even a throne/chair for a great photo opp! The staff is incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and welcoming. And if you shop here, you’re supporting a small local Salem business, which is definitely a good thing. The “adoptable “ plush black cats make an adorable souvenir or gift for a child. This shop is a MUST for every trip to Salem!
